Topics Untouched...

Construction work going around in hyderabad and the inconvenience caused by it .

Bad roads !!!

Water Wasted on roads !!!

Slow moving traffic in the middle of the road ... Ex of slow moving traffic : Bicycles, Tricycles,Push carts ..etc..

Loud horns !!!!!!!!!!

Driving rules voilations !!!

Motor cyclists hitting and running.

Who is following the safety regulations ?

All the bad things we say about Traffic police ...who is gonna realise the good they are doing ?

Much can be said about the topics above .. but never enough to make a change or bring any difference !!!

Who is responsible ?

Who can bring the difference ?

Its our city ...lets make a difference PLEASE.

Katmal Vs Bakhra...

Katmals? They are spread all over the city. Unlike usual Katmals( bed bugs) which suck our blood at night, Hyderabadi Katmals are a breed apart who does similar work during day time. Mind you their sting might cost you anywhere between Rs 50 to Rs 500/-.

Well those not familiar to Hyderabad might wonder who Katmals are and what the word symbolizes? It is nothing but a friendly pseudonym for Hyderabadi Traffic Policemen.

They are most active in doing or rather undoing their job. One just cannot help seeing them at every other junction of the city, especially at the end of the month. The following is a typical conversation when they end up catching a scapegoat (Bakhra!!)

Katmal:Licence nikalo..
Bakhra:yelo saabb(with a triumphant look)
Katmal: (albeit disappointed)teek hain.Insurance Kaha hai?
Bakhra:yelloo Saab(with a secret smile)
Katmal:Pollution Check kidar hai???
Bakhra:Nahi hai saab (with a sheepish look)
Katmal:Chalo Inspector ke paas
Bakhra:Suno saab,apan apan settle karinge
Katmal:teek hai 300 rupya nikalo
Bhakra:Utna nahi hai saab
Katmal:Teek hai 200 nikalo
Bhakra:Saab bilkul nahi hai
katmal:Aabe chal inspector ke paas
Bhakra:Saab toda adjust karlona
Katmal:Teek hai 100 rupya nikal
Bhakra:Saab mere pareeshani samjo
Katmal:Aare bahut ho gaya.Chal abe challan likata hu..
Bhakra:teek hai saab raklo 50 rupya
Katmal:Finally he pockets it saying Kya Zamana aagaya.. Chal put yaha se

Oh ...What a favor.

Hyderabad's roads to heaven

My first impression about Hyderabad? Airport.. landed in hyderabad several times ...what do I see when I step out of the flight ...Expression !!!!I always come home with a lot of excitement and enthu !!! I crossed the aerobridge and as I was coming down the steps to Immigration department ..down the stairs the saw pan spit all over the walls. Who would come from the flight eating pan and would take the liberty to spit all over the walls. I guess the colorful city of hyderabad welcomes me that way. Its not spit its rangoli i guess...

As I departed out of the airport and I was impressed by the cleanliness and the infrastructure of the city. But then as I went farther from airport things seemed pretty different and my good impression faded away . Heard about the news on the New International aiport to be completed in 2008. Here are some pictures of how the airport is going to look like..enjoy and hope it will look the same.

Newspapers in every metro city in India give a daily report of people killed and injured in traffic accidents. As a response to this do we have heightened awareness of this situation or do we just turn the page off in the newpapers or pay a deaf ear to the news on TV. Police departments also hold road safety weeks, painting competitions, zero tolerance drives and demand greater powers to fine and punish. This has gone on for the last two decades. However, the killing and the maiming continue unabated.

Road fatalities are due to a number of reasons, primary among them are bad condition of roads and traffic violations, poor implementation of various laws governing road traffic and safety issues, and last but not the least, the faulty engineering of road mechanics, may it be road design or traffic lighting etc. Furthermore, lack of awareness of road safety issues amongst the masses and apathy of the policy makers and implementers add to the increasing problem of road safety.

Civic responsibility—addressing social problems in an informed, committed, and positive manner—is not an intuitive process.
Younger generation must learn how to participate in a democracy. They need to be able to understand their community and its institutions, to develop decision-making and evaluative skills, to learn the ins and outs of public policy, and to know the value of service. What does it take to foster these abilities? How can service learning play a role in the development of civic responsibility?
